Leone Stars Arrive in Monrovia Ahead of AFCON Qualifiers


The home-based delegation of the Sierra Leone National Senior Men's Team, also known as the Leone Stars, arrived safely in Monrovia, Liberia, yesterday evening. Their arrival signals the start of preparations for the highly anticipated Total Energies 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Chad, set to take place on Friday, September 6, 2024.


Upon their arrival, the team settled into the Boulevard Palace, where they will be based during their stay in Monrovia. The delegation is being led by Sorie Ibrahim Sesay, the Director of Competition, who is serving as the team administrator. He is joined by Mohamed Bowen Freeman, the Safety and Security Officer, Head Coach Amidu Karim, his backroom staff, and eight home-based players.


In a show of commitment and readiness, seventeen foreign-based players are expected to join the squad later today. This influx of talent will prepare the team for their first full training session, scheduled for this evening at the SK D Stadium.
