Freetown City Council Declares War on Flooding in Freetown! See How They're Transforming the City

In a sweeping initiative to battle the forces of nature and enhance city resilience, the Freetown City Council has mobilized an army of over 1000 energetic youths in a citywide flood mitigation drive. 

From March to April this year, the council uncovered a staggering 72 flooding flashpoints scattered throughout the bustling streets of Freetown. Taking decisive action, the FCC has teamed up with local residents to tackle the menace of silt and garbage build-ups that choke the life out of drainage systems. 

With unwavering determination, the FCC has already vanquished flood threats at 24 of the identified hotspots, including iconic locations like Samba Gutter, Sanders Street, and Tengbeh Town. These efforts, powered by the sweat and toil of engaged community members, are breathing new life into the battle against flooding. 

Looking ahead, the FCC is gearing up to enlist an additional 1300 youth warriors in the upcoming weeks to conquer even more flood-prone areas such as Model Junction and Ashobi Corner. Supported by the benevolent aid of the World Bank and GOAL Sierra Leone, these champions of cleanliness are on the frontlines of a noble crusade. 

The FCC, spearheaded by its visionary Climate Action & Disaster Management team and devoted Sanitation Committees, knows that the path to lasting victory over flooding woes is fraught with challenges. But with strategic waste management solutions, stringent deforestation regulations, and a community mindset shift, Freetown can prevail against the elements.
