Major Inspection of Energy Infrastructure in Freetown by Government and World Bank Experts
In a collaborative effort to push forward the ongoing energy reform in Sierra Leone, Dr. Eldred Taylor, the Deputy Minister of Energy I, recently conducted an oversight visit with a World Bank team and EDSA experts to evaluate the progress of the project aiming to upgrade Freetown's energy network from 11KV to 33KV.
Funded by the World Bank, the project aims to improve electricity distribution from substations to various parts of Freetown, facilitating power distribution to locations as far as Waterloo and the western outpost of Goderich. With the successful energization of the Kingtom and Falcon Bridge substations, the Minister expressed that plans are underway to energize the Aberdeen and Jui substations soon.
He added that the government is committed to timely completion and has emphasized this to the contractors, expressing confidence that the upgrade will address issues like load shedding and low voltage. These efforts, he stated, are part of the government's commitment to improve energy infrastructure in support of the country's development.
